Enabling the growth of global internet exchange at scale and strengthening Taiwan’s influential role in global connectivity.
Chief Telecom proudly announced today that its Taipei Internet Exchange (TPIX) has officially built a strategic partnership with Japan Internet Xing (JPIX), established as the first commercial Internet Exchange in Japan in 1997. This partnership aims to facilitate the internet traffic exchange between members of TPIX and JPIX, providing businesses with complete network solutions and further strengthening Taiwan’s role in global internet connectivity.
JPIX is the very first commercial Internet Exchange in Japan and always ranked top 50 largest global IXPs; TPIX is Taiwan’s largest Internet Exchange center, ranked 96th in the world. By leveraging the collaboration with JPIX, TPIX is able to extend its comprehensive network capabilities to corporate customers seeking network resources in Japan, and JPIX will also promote Chief’s network services to its over 280+ members. Both of TPIX and JPIX will experience benefits as a result of the collaborative partnership where one plus one more than two.
Mr. Joseph Wu, Chairman of Chief Telecom, indicated that, this strategic partnership falls within the scope of Chief Telecom’s International Ring – one of THREE RINGS and THREE LINES network infrastructure. In addition to JPIX, Chief will continue to expand internet backbones in Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and Philippines, and work in close collaboration with local telecom operators and Internet Exchange centers.
At present, coupled with the Grand ASEAN-10 Alliance program, Chief Telecom is able to provide corporate customers with IDC services, internet access services, cloud-based application solutions and more than 10 international submarine cables systems. The global internet backbones currently have scaled to over 1000G. In the future, Chief will continue strengthening cooperation with East Asian partners to provide local telecommunication services. Furthermore, to accelerate the expansion of global market, Chief proactively extends its global reach with network-enhancing connectivity services. It is a crucial step to enable Chief to march actively toward the goal of becoming the digital convergence of East Asia and the center of AI cloud business applications.
Mr. Joseph Wu further mentioned that, Chief’s TPIX is designated as a National Level-2 Critical Infrastructure in Taiwan. Driven by high growth in the number of peering members and cooperative global IXPs, the volume of internet traffic at TPIX will come with a large-scale increase; at the same time, the enhancement in Taiwan’s global connectivity is conducive to the expansion of the exchange capability in global economy, culture and academic fields. In the era of knowledge economy, it not only plays a significant role in Taiwan’s economic development but also solidifies Taiwan’s key position in the global network.
